Yes. The Overseers tried to build a machine that could create a safe space away from the cult, so they could continue their research. But there was an explosion that killed Nehan, and what led to this town we're in now I believe.
We're hoping to rebuild this machine with the spare parts so we can transport ourselves.

My favorite place? Hmm... There's a nice bookstore in the mall that also sells waffles. And I still find myself returning to the island to see the flowers, as well as the sun.

Yes, Daan estimated it was somewhere around this time. I think he'd appreciate the sentiment—and perhaps a song? If you wanted to, of course.
